Party Wall Matters

Statutory Legislation
The Party Wall Act 1996 extended legislation previously confined to the Inner London Boroughs, to cover all areas of England and Wales. All Building Owners proposing to undertake works to a Party Wall or carry out excavations in close proximity to an adjacent property may be required to serve notice on the owner of the adjoining property.

The role of the 'Party Wall Surveyor' is to ensure compliance with the provisions of the Act, whether appointed by the Building Owners or the Adjoining Owners.

Angell Thompson & Partners provide:

  • a comprehensive Party Wall service to domestic and commercial clients,
  • expert knowledge in all matters arising under the Act,
  • experienced Surveyors and Engineers able to act for either party.
  • a pro-active approach to ensure wherever possible that compliance with the legislation occurs without unnecessary delay to contracts,
  • in-house engineering expertise where load and stability issues are in question.
  • If you are not sure whether you are required to comply with the Act for the works you are proposing or have been sent a notice by your neighbour please contact our Director, Steve Burbridge, to discuss the matter further.
